Learning Leading and Staying Connected Through WCLI

For the past six months, I had the opportunity to attend biweekly sessions through the Women’s Community Leadership Initiative (WCLI). When I first signed up for the program, I expected a “traditional” experience similar to the structure and style of a college course—standard curriculum, homework, pass/fail, the works. By the first session, however, I knew that wasn’t going to be the case.
I quickly learned that the community aspect of the program was front and center. Each session thoughtfully blended personal and professional development, featuring speakers from a wide range of industries and perspectives across the Pikes Peak region. Community history, networking opportunities, and meaningful connections were woven throughout every session and offsite visit.
I also had the opportunity to learn alongside women from all walks of life and professional backgrounds, many of whom were seasoned community connectors. I learned so much from their experiences and insights. As the Director of Investor Relations, Impact, and Operations, these lessons were especially valuable. I am always interested in learning how we can better connect with the unique and diverse communities we serve, while also highlighting the important work being done in rural communities to funders, partners, and prospective entrepreneurs.
I found the sessions and relationships so valuable that I couldn’t fully walk away from the program. I was honored to be accepted as a member of the steering committee for future WCLI cohorts.
I am extremely grateful for the leadership of Alana Lipscomb and the entire #wcli-cs.org team, as well as the leadership team at FSWCF, for supporting my participation in this incredible experience.
